Job Summary:

  • Provides direct and indirect patient care duties under the guidance and direction of the Registered Nurse.
  • Responsible for implementing components of the plan of care based on physical, psychosocial and spiritual needs.
  • Provides comfort, safety and emergency measures; activities of daily living: personal care needs, nutritional and elimination needs. Measures vital signs, performs ECGs, and capillary blood glucose needs.
  • Observes and reports the functioning of equipment, the results of treatments, condition of dressings and any change in patient condition.
  • Incorporates the concepts of the Hospital's Customer Service Program into all aspects of patient care activities (i.e. confidentiality, responsiveness, caring).
  • Accountable to the Nurse Manager or designee for all activities.
  • Adheres to policies and procedures of the department.
  • If certification is not present at hire employee must successfully complete the onsite nursing certification program within 90 days of hire.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required)
  • Other: Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant Program or completion of at least one clinical rotation in an accredited Nursing program (Preferred)

Licenses and Certifications:

  • BLS - Basic Life Support (Required)
  • CMA - Certified Medical Assistant (Preferred)
  • CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant (Preferred)

Experience:

  • 1 Year experience in a patient care role (Preferred)

General Responsibilities:

  • Complies with all Temple University Health System policies and procedures, and all applicable accreditation standards, laws and regulations, including those regarding patient confidentiality such as, but not limited to, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, P. L. 104-191 ('HIPAA') and the rules and regulations implemented hereunder.
  • Adheres to and promotes Hospital Safety Standards and the Safety Management Plan.
  • Performs all job responsibilities in alignment with the core values, mission and vision of the organization.
  • Performs other duties as required and completes all job functions as per departmental policies and procedures.
  • Attends staff meetings and completes mandatory in-services and requirements and competency evaluations on time.
  • Maintains current knowledge in present areas of responsibility (i.e., self education, attends ongoing educational programs).
  • Demonstrates competency in providing patient care that is individualized relative to age, population, developmental, psycho-social-cultural and demonstrated needs.
  • Wears protective clothing and equipment as appropriate.
